| What is an Action Group?
IMFCON Action Groups are charged with providing strategic guidance and tactical support for topic specific areas related to the core functions of a music festival and the role they play in music and alternative media. Each group exists to articulate an innovative voice for the range of challenges and opportunities that continue to impact the music and arts community. By providing domain expertise, leadership and guidance each action group provides cutting edge research, recommendations, guidelines, best practices and new approaches to grow and sustain festivals. Action group members are recognized as industry leaders in their functional area who are passionate about making a meaningful contribution to music, the arts and alternative media. Action group findings and recommendations serve as an invaluable tool for industry professionals and their organizations to capture unrealized benefits that can have a lasting impact for festivals, musicians and all industry stakeholders.
How We Work Together
To ensure that all organizations have a voice in the process of conceiving, developing, and implementing Action Groups, the IMFCON has developed a process comprised of face-to-face and virtual sessions for working groups to develop requisite documents and collaborate in an online environment.
Each action group member is invited to attend meetings, teleconferences, and to define a role that fulfills their own organizational objectives while advancing the growth and sustainability of film festivals and the arts.
Action Groups
The IMFCON has convened a number of Action Groups to advance the music festival community’s knowledge and understanding of the role that best practices and collaboration can play in the music, festival and alternative media areas. These groups focus on the following:
- The Sponsorship Action Group focuses on best practices for festivals seeking to identify sponsorship growth strategies within their organization.
- The Programming Action Group focuses on best practices for festivals looking to establish the most effective and efficient talent and programming strategies.
- The Audience Development Action Group provides guidance on the most effective tactics to foster and develop the festival-audience relationship through various modes of technology and communication.
- The Talent & Industry Action Group addresses strategies and programs to engage and attract industry players to your festival.
- The Leadership Action Group's goals are to establish new approaches to the formulation and implementation of strategy and sustainability within and across the arts, festivals and alternative media sectors.

- Requirements
We understand that you are a busy professional with numerous commitments and have designed Action Group participation with that in mind. Participation is comprised of a 6 or 12 month commitment and during that time group members are expected to meet once in person and participate in a series of conference calls working toward the Action Group goals and objectives. Our goal is to work with you developing resources that will directly benefit your peers, colleagues and the overall music and arts community.
Activities
The IMFCON is implementing various Action Groups through real-world projects, each of which has both an immediate benefit to one or more stakeholders and will serve as a resource to music festivals/associations and professionals that need it most. Projects are conceived, developed and executed by participants through a series of meetings hosted by the IMFCON that meet virtually and in person. Opportunities exist to present at meetings hosted by the IMFCON and at other industry events across the globe.
