If you didn’t get a chance to make it to the 2012 Americana Music Awards or just want to relive the experience, you’ll want to check your local PBS listings for “ACL Presents:Americana Music Festival.” The program had its premiere airing last night, Nov. 10 and will run throughout the week until Nov. 16.
Part of PBS’ iconic “Austin City Limits” series, “ACL Presents: Americana Music Festival” is a compilation of musical performances from the 2012 Americana Music Awards and Honors. While the entire show got a live airing on AXS TV, this is the first chance for those who attended or missed it live to get to see any of these performances.
“ACL Presents: Americana Music Festival” has something for everyone. If you like all-star jams, the show’s opening and closing numbers are not to be missed. Opening the show is Americana Lifetime Achievement Award winner Booker T. Jones, leading an all-star band that includes Buddy Miller, Jim Lauderdale, and Richard Thompson in a performance of Booker T. and the MG’s iconic hit song “Green Onions.”
The show closer honors Americana pioneer Levon Helm and features virtually the entire roster of Americana Music Awards performers taking on The Band’s “The Weight.” For a fan of Americana music, watching Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Miller, and Richard Thompson trade lead guitar licks is as close to Heaven as you can get.
